Financial Aid for Online Students
An education from CBU is a distinct and valuable investment in future growth opportunities. CBU is committed to helping students find and secure the resources needed to finance their education. A broad range of financial aid options are available to assist online students — including scholarships and grants through CBU aid, government aid and private aid and various loan opportunities.
Defining Financial Aid
To figure out how much your CBU education will cost, the distinction must be made between the sticker price and the actual cost as well as the difference between scholarships, grants and loans.
Sticker Price: This is the starting cost of your CBU education, but this may not be the price you pay. You may qualify for financial aid to reduce the sticker price and discover your actual cost. We’ll explain further down.
Subtract Scholarships
A scholarship is money you do not have to pay back. These can be awarded by CBU or other private companies and organizations.
Subtract Grants
A grant is money you do not have to pay back. Grants are need-based aid and eligibility
is based on financial need as determined by the FAFSA. Some grants are funded by CBU
in the form of institutional aid while others are government funded.
Here are some examples: Federal Pell Grant, Cal Grant, FSEOG and CBU Grant.
Subtract Loans
A loan is money that you borrow that you repay, usually after graduation. This money can be borrowed from the government and/or private loan lenders.
= Actual Cost
This is the cost that remains after subtracting scholarships, grants and/or loans that you may have been offered. Think of this as the price you will actually pay to attend CBU.

Is a private, CBU education expensive?
We’ll let the numbers speak for themselves … the average CBU Online undergraduate
student receives a 64% discount on their tuition. This means that the average per
unit cost is $216 ($613/unit sticker price with a 65% discount)! This number includes
all gift aid (scholarships and grants).
How many students who attend CBU receive gift aid?
97% of students receive gift aid. This is money that you don’t have to pay back and
can come from several sources like FAFSA, CBU and other outside scholarships.
Do online undergraduate students pay the same price as traditional on-campus undergraduate
students?
No, the prices are different for students who want to study fully online versus those
who want a traditional, on-campus undergraduate experience.
