Become Exempt from Taking the CSET or CBEST
Students who have earned the English degree and are interested in obtaining a California single subject (English) and/or special education teaching credential(s) would be exempt from taking the English California Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET). Additionally, students could meet the credential's basic skills requirements through coursework and would be exempt from taking the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST).

- Writing, Editing, Revising: Write, edit, and revise a well-organized essay using clear syntax, diction, and style. (USO 3, 5)
- Critical Interpretation/Analysis: Critically interpret texts based on literary theory, genre, and context. (USO 1, 2, 3, 5, 6)
- Research: Identify, navigate, and evaluate appropriate research tools and incorporate scholarly research into their own writing. (USO 3, 4, 5)
- Faith: Explain his or her worldview as well as biblical principles in relation to the creation and interpretation of literature. (USO 1, 2, 3, 5, 6)
- Breadth of Literary Knowledge: Demonstrate familiarity with a variety of literary traditions including prominent
authors, genres, literary movements, and styles.* (USO 2, 3, 5)
*This particular SLO is holistic to the program and so it is "practiced" in each course until the students' senior year, when it is "demonstrated."
ENG 343: Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century British Literature
Neoclassical, Romantic and Victorian literature in historical context.
ENG 365: Christian Classics
Surveys some of the great literary texts in the Christian tradition. Readings from primary works will provide opportunity to become familiar with a variety of voices in the history of Christian spirituality.
ENG 463: Language Structure and Acquisition
Linguistic theory and method. Includes the study of the five universal elements of language (phonology, morphology, semantics, syntax, and pragmatics) as well as the use of language and its variants in culture. Fieldwork required.

What resources do I need to complete my degree online?
To complete your online degree, you will need access to a computer, Wi-Fi and a word
processor like Microsoft Word. These are necessary to access the student learning
system and complete your assignments. Some programs may require different resources.

CBU accepts applications for online enrollment throughout the year, and most online degree programs can start at 6 semester entry points per calendar year.
