Welcome to the Library

The Annie Gabriel Library is a dynamic organization devoted to helping you find the information you need, providing vast online collections of quality resources in addition to our more traditional print collection. Our building, which is located in the center of campus, is a great place to conduct research, study for an exam, meet and work with friends, or just find a quiet corner to relax. The physical collections of the Annie Gabriel Library include over 200,000 items including books, journals, DVDs, and sound recordings. Additionally, the Library also offers access to e-resources such as scholarly journal articles, e-books, online encyclopedias, streaming audio and video, and more. All online resources are available to current students both on- and off-campus.

Borrowing and Renewing Library Materials

Your library card is your current CBU ID. Use OneSearch Catalog to search for print books, e-books and other items in the library's physical collections. When materials are checked out, the due date is stamped in the front of the book. Materials should be returned to the front desk during hours the library is open, or to the outdoor book return when the library is closed. Click here for more information about borrowing privileges and responsibilities.

You can renew most items in-person, by phone, or online by logging into Webcat with your CBU ID and password.

Fines accrued for overdue fees can now be paid online by visiting this page.

Online Resources

The library's collections contain far more than what sits on the shelves. Use OneSearch Catalog to search from over 250,000 e-books, covering all academic disciplines and available for your use right now.

Additionally, the library provides over 100 different databases for finding articles from scholarly journals, newspapers, magazines and other periodicals. In these databases you can also find reference materials, musical recordings, statistics, and much more. From the "Databases" tab on the library homepage, you can view a list of all databases, or browse them by subject. The "Journals A-Z" tab can be used to look up the full-text from a specific citation by searching for the journal title.

Holds

There may be times when an item you want is not on the shelf. If the catalog shows that the item is checked out, you can place a hold in-person or online by logging into Webcat with your CBU ID and password.

If an item you have checked out is placed on hold, you may keep it until the due date, but you may not renew it.

You may also place holds on items to have them retrieved from certain collections closed to the public.

Borrowing from Other Libraries

If an item you need isn't in our collections, you can request that we get it for you from another library. All books (as well as journal articles) can be requested through our interlibrary loan service. Details and instructions on the interlibrary loan service are available here.

Tip: WorldCat, which searches across 10,000 libraries at once, is a great way to find books from beyond our collections.

Using Other Local Libraries

The IEALC (Inland Empire Academic Libraries Cooperative) Card is available to students from the front desk. This card provides you the opportunity to visit a number of local universities and colleges. Only books can be borrowed.

Course Reserves

Faculty may select books and articles to place on reserve for students enrolled in a specific course. These items are arranged by department and professor's name at the library's front desk (Access Services).

Copying and Printing

Color and black-and-white printing is available in the library and around campus. Cash payments for printing are not accepted. See this page for details.

Research Assistance

Research assistance is individualized help from librarians in locating materials on a topic and navigating the library's print and online collections.  Research assistance is available to all students through the Contact Us page via phone, e-mail or chat.

Also, in-person research assistance is available during most opening hours. For more in-depth assistance, contact one of the following librarians to schedule:

Computers in the Library

Computers with access to library resources and the Internet are located near the entrance of the library. Power outlets are also located throughout the rest of the building near desks and tables for individual laptop usage. The computers all have Microsoft Office (including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access) and SPSS. Screen reading software is available upon request.

Wireless internet (wifi) access is available throughout the entire library.

Study Areas

Individual carrels and group study spaces are available throughout the library. Most of the locations have power outlets for laptops. Two group study labs may be reserved in advance here.
