The Intensive English Program (IEP) offers four levels of study taught in 15 week semesters and a 10 week semester in the summer. IEP offers approximately 20 hours of class time per week, and includes the courses listed in the following chart:
Beginning – Level 1
- Oral Communication
- Writing with Grammar Emphasis
- Reading and Academic Vocabulary
- Life Skills
- Pronunciation
Low Intermediate – Level 2
- Oral Communication
- Writing with Grammar Emphasis
- Reading and Academic Vocabulary
- Historical and Cultural Foundations of America
- Pronunciation
High Intermediate – Level 3**
- Oral Communication
- Writing with Grammar Emphasis
- Reading and Academic Vocabulary
- Preparation for University Academic Culture
- Business English
Advanced – Level 4**
- Oral Communication
- Writing with Grammar Emphasis
- Reading and Academic Vocabulary
- Developing Presentation Skills
- Introduction to Research Skills
- Methods of Problem Analysis for prospective Graduate students
Certificates will be issued upon successfully completing the final level of the IEP.
**At the High Intermediate and Advanced levels, students have the opportunity to take
1 – 2 traditional courses for credit if they demonstrate the ability to perform at that level.
Levels Certificates will be issued after successful completion of each level.
When you arrive at CBU, you will participate in one full day of testing in the areas of reading, listening comprehension, academic essay writing, and speaking.
You will also have a personal interview with an IEP advisor. This will help us place you in the suitable learning level based on the results of your test evaluation.
IEP also offers personal tutoring for students with special needs and for those who have already entered their university program but need help in undergraduate or graduate studies. As a student in the IEP, you have the benefit of studying in a small, personal setting with the resources of a full university available for your use.
