Overview
In the early 1900’s God used young people to impact the nations in what became known as the first student missions movement. A century later, we are at the peak of the second student missions movement; here at CBU we call it Global Surge 2 (GS2).
Global Surge 2 is a service opportunity for juniors and seniors in high school to partner with California Baptist University to participate in a service project overseas. Students will begin their experience at CBU in a 3-day cross-cultural simulation to prepare for their journey.
To ensure proper accountability and one-on-one discipleship, each student will be placed in a ‘cluster’ comprised of 8-10 GS2 participants. Clusters will be led by experienced and trained college students.
The entire team of will travel as one unit from CBU to their destination for on-the-field orientation before beginning their ministry projects. Upon completion of their service project, all of GS2 will be reunited to share and process their journey before returning to the states together.
This journey is not only for individual youth, but also open to church youth groups and their youth pastors.

John and his wife, Stephanie, have three children.

Jared has served in cross-cultural settings all across the globe and most recently, with the Global Surge 2 program in June and July of 2008.
Under the direct supervision of our Spiritual Life staff, selected CBU students, who have already participated in CBU’s International Service Projects, will serve as ‘cluster’ leaders for the Global Surge 2 teams.
