Bachelor of Science in Chemistry

Many chemists work in industries that produce pharmaceuticals, household cleaners, personal care products, plastics and thousands of other materials relied upon for everyday life. Chemists also conduct research for academic, government and industrial organizations to try to better understand and potentially solve significant problems, such as alternative fuels and climate change. As a chemist, you can also work in fields at the forefront of science, including biotechnology and nanotechnology - helping to develop the technologies of tomorrow!

There is always a need for chemistry teachers at all levels (junior high through college). Being a chemistry major is also an excellent preparation for medical school, pharmacy school and other professional schools. You can build upon your knowledge of chemistry in a medical profession to solve the physical needs of individuals. Individuals with expertise in chemistry are in demand around the world. As a chemist, you will have skills that allow you to move to another country to not only work but serve God at the same time.

Chemistry Student Learning Outcomes

PSO #1 Upon completion of the B.S. Degree in Chemistry, students will demonstrate competency in Chemistry at levels comparable to national standards for these disciplines.

PSO #2 Students will be able to critically analyze and discuss scientific journal articles.

PSO #3 Students will demonstrate proficiency in accurately conveying scientific data both orally and in writing.

PSO #4 Upon completion of each year of chemistry coursework (General, Organic, Analytical, and Physical), students will attain knowledge comparable to national standards in these areas of chemistry.

PSO #5 Students will be able to apply appropriate technology (including molecular modeling) and mathematical tools to their study of chemistry

PSO #6 Students will be able to apply instrumental and other laboratory techniques to laboratory -based problems.
