presidency. But just what roles do the media play in such major election
cycles? Name at least three (3) of the roles outlined in our text, and
indicate whether you think they are legitimate roles. (6 pts possible)
- Compare the flowcharts on pages 335 and 340, showing
how a bill becomes law and how the budget becomes law. Note at least 3 key
points of difference between these two flows and briefly explain why those
differences exist. (6 pts possible)
- Where in the Constitution is there language about the
President’s cabinet? Cite the appropriate article and section. (4 pts possible)
- How many cabinet posts are there today? Give the
number and explain why your answer is correct. (3 pts possible)
- What is the difference between an executive agency
under a cabinet position, and an independent agency established by
Congress? (Your answer should be

- In the video of his speech in 1988 and during the
question and answer period, Justice Scalia said that the judiciary in
general and the US Supreme Court in particular is decidedly, purposefully,
antidemocratic. What did he mean by that, and what support from the
Constitution does he have for making that claim? (Your answer should be
2-3 paragraphs in length. 10 pts possible)
