See an interesting item on the National Good, by Michael Lind, discussing the role of small, homogenous nation-states in the evolving world system today. Rather than being a problem, he suggests this development is indeed a national good.
See the Weekly IR Quiz Process guidelines for a note on instructions for Quiz #7. It will be handled a bit differently than quizzes 1-6. No change in due date.
Good news and bad news about our textbook: the Bookstore has been able to locate a number of used texts that will be cheaper for you to purchase, but they will not include Microsoft's Encarta Atlas on cd-rom. That is unfortunate, but remember that the atlas is not essential to completing the course. We will cover options for internet research apart from such proprietary software packages.
A new quiz will be posted each week. Click on the link to go to this week's question(s). Respond to me via email with your answer(s) per the class schedule. Latest IR Quiz   [Click on the following link to review the Weekly IR Quiz Process guidelines.]

Limited number of copies still available from CBU Bookstore

At the Intersection of Legality & Morality: Hartian Law as Natural Law
by Daniel W. Skubik (NY: Peter Lang Publishers, 1990) ISBN: 0-8204-1327-5

Photo of book's coverComments from readers:   "Among many impressive features are: a clear eye for the apt example, a highly persuasive style of argumentation, . . . and a particularly original reexamination of the Humean circumstances of justice." -- Neil MacCormick, Regius Chair of Public Law and the Law of Nature and Nations, University of Edinburgh

"Dr. Skubik's interpretation of Hart's theory is not only novel but radical. Skubik seeks to overcome the divide between the legal positivist and natural law traditions by showing Hart's own theory to be a version of natural law. The book promises to spark debate within legal philosophy; and legal positivism will never be the same." -- Gerald F. Gaus, Professor of Philosophy and Political Science, University of Minnesota, Duluth, and Queensland University of Technology
