Study Guide for Final Exam

Recommendations for study:

Recall that I am looking for your understanding of the principal technical and business aspects associated with using the Internet, with particular emphasis on modern e-commerce as outlined in the text and its associated web links. That means understanding basic security concerns in business environments, as well as the mechanisms of managing shopfronts and auction sites on the WWW.

Remember that you are permitted to work in groups of up to 4, as well as individually, even for the final exam. But you must work on the entire exam together, for which you all will receive the same grade.

You are permitted to bring and use your textbook, any prepared study notes, as well as copies of your homework assignments, for the final exam. Do not bring other written/photocopied or any digital materials with you (e.g. floppy diskettes), though you will be permitted to use the Internet to surf to links for info if you think that would be helpful.

The exam is in 3 parts:

Part I is a straightforward objective set of questions (~100 altogether) that covers the written materials that have been assigned during the term. (You do not need to bring Scantrons to the exam. I am hoping to set up the questions so you will answer them on the computer, but if I cannot arrange that I will bring Scantrons for you, myself. In any case, the questions will appear on a computer screen, not in hardcopy.) This part will be worth 45% of the final.

Part II requires you to configure/use a software package related to Internet usage. The package initially will be downloaded for you at the lab workstations, but for the rest will require you to follow an instruction sheet to make the package fully operational and then to use it to complete designated tasks. This part if worth 20% of the final.

Part III requires you to write and print out a detailed essay (~1000 words) in response to key questions related to the operation/usefulness of the software package. This essay will be worth 35% of the final.

You will have the entire class period (4.5 hours) to complete all 3 parts of the exam: 6:00-10:30pm. But it can be comfortably completed in a little over 2 hours.
