Mar 4:   Related to our readings and ethical investing, click on this link for a brief Comment on Visa's battle with Porn from the editor of InformationWeek magazine.
Feb 12:   Click on these links for brief notes on Utilitarian moral theory, Pareto and Kaldor-Hicks economic analyses of distributions of social assets, and a news item of general interest on Jeremy Bentham, the "father" of Anglo-American utilitarianism. You may find them of some use with regard to Hartman's critique.

Syllabus for Macroeconomics (BUS 218) (Main Campus, Evening College, AE section, Jul/Aug 2002)

Thr, 8 Aug:   The result was unanimous -- you will be taking the final exam in groups. (Again, let me strongly advise groups of 2-3.) More details during next week's class. Also note that there is still time to gain participation credit for use of the Discussion Forum on the web. If you haven't been participating regularly in class, consider your options as the class comes to a close.
Mon, 29 Jul:   Thank you for your contributions to the Assessment survey for our course. That survey link is now closed. I truly appreciate the time taken and responses/comments given by 10 of you to help gauge the progress of the class.
Tue, 23 Jul:   For an opportunity to provide anonymous feedback about the course to date, click on this link. You will need a password, which I will give during class tomorrow night. The link will be active through Sunday evening. Macroeconomics Assessment
Wed, 17 Jul:   There seems to be some confusion about how to reach the appropriate online quiz on the publisher's website. I will address the matter tonight, but in any case do be careful to attempt the proper quiz for our chapters by confirming that the quiz you take is for the chapter with the correct name. For example, don't confuse a quiz for chapter 10 on externalities with our chapter 10 on measuring a nation's income: the former belongs to the study of microeconomics, the latter belongs to our study of macroeconomics.
Friday, Jul 12: For an interesting review of how economic theory applies to understanding everyday like, see the Interview with Gary Becker, Nobel Laureate and Professor or Economics & Sociology at the University of Chicago, conducted and published by the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis.
Tue, 9 Jul:   A room change has been confirmed. We will meet for the remainder of the term in James 375. Also, if you are still without a copy of the text, the Bookstore just put 12 used copies on the shelf this morning. Call 343-4259 for their hours.
Mon, 8 Jul:   For an interesting discussion on the foundations of capitalism--that follows in some important respects our handout on wealth networks--see the Carnegie Council transcript of a recent speech by Hernando de Soto, The Mystery of Capital, honoring Hans Morgenthau.

This is an open Forum for all students in my ISM and OM courses at CBU to post their comments, questions, and observations about any aspect of the courses - whether sparked by thoughts or events in or out of the classroom. Robust peer exchanges are encouraged, but civility should always guide your contributions. You may simply "lurk" and read what others have contributed to the Forum, post comments to introduce new topics, or answer questions posed by your classmates.
