Frequently Asked Questions

Below you will find Frequently Asked Questions. Some questions are related to all graduating students and some questions are specific to your degree type. So, be sure to scroll down and read all questions pertaining to your status.


Question: When do I receive my actual diploma?

Answer: Diplomas for students who are posting their degree for May 2, 2014 will be available for pick up in the Office of the University Registrar (Yeager Center B161) beginning Monday, May 5th as long as the student meets the following requirements:

  • The student has applied for and been approved for the May 2, 2014 degree posting date.
  • The student has all outstanding degree requirements met.  This means all coursework has been completed and all outstanding grades and official transcripts have been received.
  • The student has been cleared to receive their diploma by both the Financial Aid and Student Accounts Offices.

Question: What time do I have to arrive for Commencement related events?

Answer: Graduates need to be at the Citizens Business Bank Arena no later than 12:45(Trad Undergrad Commencement) or 5:45 pm(Grad/OPS Commencement) on May 3, 2014.  Click here for detailed information on Graduation Arrival and Line-up.

Question: Will there be sign language interpreting?

Answer: An interpreter will be provided during the Commencement Ceremony for guests who are hearing disabled. Click here for more information about ceremony accommodations.

Question: Can I sit with my friends/classmates during the ceremony?

Answer: Yes! Master's Students line up by School/College and Program and Bachelor's degree candidates will line up within their respective Schools/Colleges.  All students may choose who they wish to be seated next to within the perimeters set forth above. Click here for more information about Graduation Arrival and Line-up.

Question: How many guests can I invite?

Answer: Ticket are required for the Traditional Undergraduate Ceremony at 2 pm.  Graduates are each issued 11 tickets initially.  Tickets are not required for the Graduate/OPS Ceremony at 7 pm.  Click here for more information on Guest information about Tickets.

Question: Do I need to return my cap and gown?

Answer:  No. The cap and gowns do not need to be returned. They are yours to keep. Click here for more information about regalia.


Question: When will I get my honors cords?

Answer: Cords and stoles will be distributed upon arrival at Citizens Business Bank Arena to qualified Bachelor's Degree candidates. Click here for more information about honor cords and stoles. _________________________________________________________________________________

Question: How do I know if I qualify for honors?

Answer: Honors are determined by a student's cumulative grade point average at the completion of the Spring 2014 semester. A list will be posted of candidates who qualify for honors. Click here for more information.


Question: When will I receive my hood?

Answer: You will receive your hood during the hooding ceremony presented by your respective program. If you are unable to attend the hooding ceremony, your hood will be available at the Citizens Business Bank Arena when you arrive. Click here for more information about the Hooding Ceremonies.
