Alan McThomas, Counseling Center Director

Alan R. McThomas earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Rosemead Graduate School of Psychology and has been practicing in the field of psychotherapy since 1967. He assumed the position of Counseling Center Director at California Baptist University in September 1998 and is also an Associate Professor of Psychology. Beginning in 1978, Alan served as a director and clinical psychologist with Christian Psychological Services in Riverside, where he continues to maintain his clinical practice.

Julie Greenwalt, Counseling Center Secretary

Julie Greenwalt graduated from California Baptist University with a B.A. in Behavioral Science. She assumed the position of secretary in the Counseling Center in June 2006.

Vicki Andrews, MFT Intern

Vicki Andrews received her B.S. degree in Psychology at National University and an M.S. degree in Counseling Psychology from California Baptist University. She has 16 years of experience as a day care director. She has also worked as a youth counselor and is interested in working with parents, adolescents, special needs children, and women.

Shawntay Blakeney, MFT Trainee

Shawntay Blakeney graduated from California State University, San Bernardino, with a B.A. in Liberal Studies and is currently working toward her M.S. degree in Marriage Family Therapy. She has served as a residential assistant for foster care youth and has a particular interest in working with people in the areas of depression, anxiety, and children's therapy.

Trinette Briggs, MFT Intern

Trinette Briggs earned an M.S. in Counseling Psychology at California Baptist University. She currently works with women and children at a local transitional living program and is interested in working with individuals, couples, children, and youth.

Ameerah Bonner, MFT Intern

Ameerah Bonner earned her B.A. degree in Psychology and Sociology and her M.S. in Counseling Psychology at California Baptist University. She has worked with organizations such as Totally Kids and Stop the Violence Increase the Peace Foundation. She enjoys working with individuals, couples, families, and students.

Kathy Camarena, MFT Trainee

Kathy Camarena received her B.A. in Sociology and Ethnic Studies from the University of California, Riverside. She is currently working toward her M.S. in Counseling Psychology at California Baptist University. Kathy is bilingual in English and Spanish and enjoys working with families and children.

Rachel Campbell, MFT Intern

Rachel Campbell received her B.A. in English and an M.S. in Counseling Psychology at California Baptist University. She enjoys working with children and adolescents as well as in the area of divorce recovery. Rachel is certified to administer Prepare/Enrich in premarital and marital counseling.

Ramona Carver, MFT Intern

Ramona Carver completed her B.S. in Liberal Studies and earned her M.S. in Counseling Psychology at California Baptist University. She has worked for the Women's Crisis Intervention Agency in Oceanside and is enjoys working with women, families, and couples.

Anna Grigorian, MFT Intern

Anna Grigorian received her B.A. degree from the University of California, Riverside, in Psychology and Anthropology and an M.S. degree in Counseling Psychology at California Baptist University. She is multilingual in English, Russian, and Armenian. She is a Teaching Assistant at CBU and has been a guest speaker at CBU and other universities. Anna is interested in working with women on issues of self-esteem, relationships, sexual problems, eating disorders, and attachment, as well as with individual struggling with depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder.

Gail Harris, MFT Intern

Gail Harris received her B.S. degree in Psychology from California Baptist University as well as an M.S. degree in Counseling Psychology. She enjoys working with individuals and families, particularly in the area of depression.

Emily Housley, MFT Trainee

Emily Housley earned her B.A. in Psychology from Louisiana Tech University and is currently working toward an M.S. in Counseling Psychology at California Baptist University. She has worked as an advocate supervisor in a court-appointed special advocates program and is particularly interested in working with adolescents.

Pamela Jacobs, MFT Trainee

Pamela Jacobs graduated from Trinity Western University, British Columbia, Canada, with a B.A. in Psychology and is currently working toward an M.S. in Counseling Psychology at California Baptist University. she is bilingual in English and Polish. Pamela is interested in working with young adults, couples, and children, particularly in the areas of anxiety, depression, and personal growth.

Toni Jauregui, MFT Intern

Toni Jauregui earned her B.S. degree as well as an M.S. degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at California Baptist University. She enjoys working with all types of people.

Beverly Jones, MFT Intern

Beverly Jones graduated with a B.A. degree in Psychology and an M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy from California Baptist University. She has worked as a paralegal dealing with families involved in child custody disputes, and is interested in helping teens and young adults, couples, and families. Beverly is certified to administer Prepare/Enrich for premarital and marital counseling.

Robin Kamara, MFT Trainee

Robin Kamara received her B.S. in Behavioral Science and is currently working toward an M.S. in Counseling Psychology from California Baptist University.

Gary Miner, MFT Intern

Gary Miner earned his B.A. and M.S. in Counseling Psychology at California Baptist University. He has served as program director, program coordinator, case manager, and system administrator at a drug/alcohol rehabilitation center and is interested in working with families and those needing drug/alcohol counseling.

Miriam Ordiales, MFT Intern

Miriam Ordiales obtained a B.S. in Human Services and an M.S. in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy at California Baptist University. She has taught parenting classes for court mandated/CPS and school referrals at the YWCA in Riverside. Miriam is interested in working with families, couples, children, and individuals in crisis, and she is bilingual in English and Spanish.

Jim Paulus, MFT Intern

Jim Paulus received his B.A. degree at Tabor College and his M.S. degree in Counseling Psychology at California Baptist University. He is currently the Director of Disability Services at CBU. He enjoys working with families, couples, adolescents, men's issues, parenting, and addictive behaviors.

Robin Pillai, MFT Intern

Robin Pillai received her B.S. degree in Psychology from Michigan State University. She also earned her M.S. degree in Counseling Psychology at California Baptist University. Robin works for the Riverside Unified School District as an MFT Intern in the elementary school counseling program. She recently received her Pupil Personnel Services credential to become a school counselor.

Christine Rayford, MFT Trainee

Christine Rayford earned a B.A. in Psychology from California State University, Fullerton, and is currently working toward an M.S. in Counseling Psychology at California Baptist University. She is bilingual in English and Tagalog (Filipino). Christine is interested in working with adolescents, couples, and families, particularly dealing with issues related to stress, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and adjustment and cross-cultural issues.

Stephanie Risinger, MFT Trainee

Stephanie Risinger graduated with a B.A. in Sociology and is currently working toward an M.S. in Counseling Psychology at California Baptist University. She has been a program coordinator for a teen pregnancy prevention program at the YWCA and is interested in working with adolescents and couples.

Mark Shuman, MFT Trainee

Mark Shuman earned a B.A. in Psychology and is currently working toward an M.S. in Counseling Psychology at California Baptist University. He has several years' experience as a teacher/advisor/counselor at Teen Challenge in Riverside, CA.

Retha Smith, MFT Intern

Retha Smith received her B.A. degree in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Counseling Theory and a minor in Christian Education from California Baptist University. She also earned her M.S. degree in Counseling Psychology from California Baptist University with an emphasis in Counseling Theory. She is currently working toward a Doctor of Education degree in Counseling Psychology at Argosy University. Retha is employed as a Human Resources Consultant with Riverside County's Economic Development Agency and has many years of experience in social services and economic development. Retha enjoys working with individuals, couples, and families in group counseling.

Joshua Vander Veen, MFT Intern

Joshua Vander Veen earned his B.S. in Christian Behavioral Science and an M.S. degree in Marriage Family Therapy at California Baptist University. He is interested in working with young couples and children.

Ruth Vaughn, MFT Intern

Ruth Vaughn graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from Whitworth University and an M.S. in Marriage Family Therapy at California Baptist University. She is interested in working with children, youth, young adults, couples, and families.

David Vest, MFT Trainee

David Vest graduated from Biola University with a B.S. in Organizational Leadership and is currently working on his M.S. in Counseling Psychology at California Baptist University. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, David is a full-time law enforcement officer and has experience working as a school resource officer. David enjoys working with juveniles, families, and couples. He is especially interested in working with trauma in juveniles, post-traumatic stress disorder, and forensic psychology.

Dean Watson, MFT Intern

Dean Watson earned his B.A. degree in Psychology and an M.S. in Counseling Psychology at California Baptist University. He is a substance abuse case manager specializing in co-occurring disorders and is interested in family, couple, and addiction and recovery counseling. Dean is currently a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC-I) through the California Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (CAADAC).

Colleen Young, MFT Intern

Colleen Young received her B.A. degree in Psychology from California Baptist University, as well as her M.S. degree in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. She is also an adjunct professor at CBU and has been a guest speaker at various University engagements. Colleen especially enjoys working with couples and families and facilitates support groups for individuals overcoming sexual abuse.

Giuliana Zlatar, Post-Doctoral Intern

Giuliana Zlatar earned a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute, where she also worked on her M.A. in Counseling Psychology. She is bilingual in Spanish and English and is very interested in multicultural issues.
