California Baptist University School of Nursing is awarded $500,000 by Fletcher Jones Foundation

RIVERSIDE, CA (October 9, 2009) – The CBU School of Nursing, which graduated its first class of 34 BSN degree graduates in May, 2009, received a $500,000 grant from the Fletcher Jones Foundation in Pasadena. The grant funding will allow the purchase of technology that will improve nurse training safety in accordance with Obama administration priorities for healthcare reform, according to Dr. Constance Milton, Dean of the CBU School of Nursing.

“We are delighted beyond words, really, at the additional capacity the Fletcher Jones Foundations’ generous grant provides us in being able to address the safety priorities so important for quality patient care,” Milton said. “We must be able to stay abreast, and even ahead if possible, of the technological advancements and the associated professional responsibilities that go with them. This grant helps us do that.”

The School of Nursing uses state-of-the-art simulation equipment, software and patient monitoring systems to provide as “life like” training in a laboratory setting as is possible. The Fletcher Jones Foundation award will specifically provide for a NurseSquared software installation giving nursing students real-life electronic medical records training along with their patient care skills using simulated patient equipment.

In addition, high-fidelity equipment cameras will be installed to record the simulation of patient events, for additional feedback training for nursing students. The remainder of the funds will be used to purchase additional simulation models and clinical equipment needed to complete the sophisticated complement of equipment currently in place.

The Fletcher Jones Foundation, headquartered in Pasadena, CA, was established in 1969 by Fletcher Jones, co-founder of Computer Sciences Corporation.  The foundation's central mission is to support private, independent colleges and universities in California."
