Growing at CBU

At California Baptist University, the spiritual growth of our students is of utmost importance as they mature personally and continue their educational journey—as well as their journey through life after they graduate from CBU. There are many exciting opportunities available for new and returning students to become involved in activities that charge or recharge them spiritually. Campus Ministries coordinates and facilitates those life-changing opportunities.

Through Campus Ministries, discipleship opportunities include Launch Groups and Life Groups. Launch groups are small-group Bible studies that freshmen attend within their living groups. The goal of these groups is to help students study the Word of God and apply it to life in a small corporate setting. In so doing, they grow spiritually and become more devoted followers of Jesus.

Life groups are similar in scope and format, and encourage the same horizontal and vertical growth among sophomores, juniors and seniors as they walk through…life. While the Word of God is again the focus of these studies, the venue might include other meeting places, including off-campus sites and classrooms, in addition to student living groups. Life groups also are intended to develop committed disciples of Jesus Christ in the context of a small group setting.

Finally, chapel plays an indelible role in the spiritual growth of our students. Each week, the campus community gathers in Van Dyne Gymnasium for a lively and uplifting service featuring student-led worship and presentations by both CBU and off-campus Christian speakers. Chapel attendance is required for traditional students who are enrolled in seven or more units—and is unequivocal in its positive daily impact on their Christian lives.

Remember: God never intended that we go it alone, and the many ministry opportunities available at CBU help students hone their spiritual sharpness and overall character in a loving, supportive environment.
